Obituary of Lena Morrow

Please share a memory of Lena to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Lena Mai Morrow, the second child and daughter of the late Lawrence Madison Sr. and Katie Mae Hoggett was born January 17, 1947 in Hartsville, Tennessee.

She received her early childhood education in the Public School of Trousdale County and was a graduate of Pearl High School in Nashville, Tennessee. She was an active and spirited Pearl High alumna. With much excitement, Lena attended her class reunions and reconnected with old friends and Classmates of 1965.

During her early childhood, she professed a faith in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at Fourteenth Avenue Baptist Church.

Lena was employed with Gray and Dudley Co. for several years. During the early 80‘s, Lena accepted a new opportunity and became a dedicated employee at Lloyd C. Elam Mental Health Center on the historical campus of Meharry Medical College as an Administrative Assistant for 25 plus years.

Lena was a faithful and committed wife to Fred Morrow of Somerville, Tennessee. And she loved “motherhood”. All that knew Lena, would agree Kafrisha Dushawn was her pride and joy. Belly dancing with daughter every Sunday afternoon was one of her most precious moments.

She loved and cherished her family. Some of Lena’s favorite past times would be hour long telephone conversations with family and friends. She never wanted to say good-bye. She would patiently wait for others to end the conversation. Lena cared about everyone’s feelings and often put them before her own. She always attend family dinners and was famous for her renowned potato salad. After retirement from Elam Mental Health Center she enjoyed watching her favorite TV shows, shopping at Green Hills Mall and spending time with family.

Before sunrise on Wednesday, March 14, 2018, with her husband and daughter at bedside, Lena Mai Morrow, peacefully departed this life and transitioned to her Eternal Home in the presence of the Lord.

It’s Lena’s warm smile, calm disposition and spirit of generosity that will remain memorable and live on in our hearts.

She leaves to cherish her memory, loving husband, Fred Morrow; dearly devoted daughter, Kafrisha Dushawn Morrow; sister, Betty Payne; brother, Lawrence (Mary) Hoggett; brother-in-law, Luther C. (Gwendolyn) Morrow; sister-in-law, Shirley Morrow; nieces, Debator Troupe, Abba Lena (William) Yarbrough and Saundra Banks; nephew, Frederick Payne; devoted cousins, Najaneiro Handley, Pamela (Jeffrey) Pullen-Boone, Linda McDonald and many other close relatives and friends.
