Obituary of Phillip Denard Henry
Phillip Denard Henry was born February 18, 1955 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born to Cecil Henry who preceded him in death and Abbie Henry. Phillip Denard Henry departed this life on Saturday, April 27, 2019.
The Henry’s relocated their family from Indianapolis, Indiana to Nashville, Tennessee where Phillip would enlist in the United States Army to serve our country as veteran. He was also a boxer while in the army. After serving in the army, Phillip would attend Nashville State Community College and receive his degree in computer programming. He retired as an Oracle Database Administrator from Zycron by way of Nashville Electric Service.
Phillip enjoyed many things in life; boxing while in the Army, driving a nice car, exercising, to a good steak and a good drink. He especially loved the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays and his all-time favorite pastime of “relaxing”. Phillip loved nothing more than his family. He loved his children unequivocally. He called and visited often, especially at night and on the weekends, and was known to unexpectedly show up just to say hello. Philip loved to reminisce by telling stories of years past. He made sure to make it relate to how his children should live their lives in the present, passing on the many life experiences and lessons he learned along the way.
After retirement, Phillip began to get more active with his grandchildren by asking to spend time with them – going to lunch or dinner, coming over for one of the many birthday parties, or bringing them over to his house for a visit. During those visits, he would always ask Christopher and Camden to race because he was so shocked at how fast Camden was. And the boys knew that granddaddy Phillip would have $5 dollars waiting for them at the end of the race. Phillip also looked forward to Thanksgiving dinner at his son’s house each year as he knew he would come down and get his favorite banana pudding and play games with family and friends.
Phillip leaves to cherish his memories: two children, Phillip (Sharonda) Henry and Dymonde Henry; 6 grandchildren; Phillip also has 8 siblings, Herbert (Sharon) Henry, Tyrone Henry, Timothy (Yolanda) Henry, Jeffrey (Sheree) Henry, Marie (Elroy) Henry-Christie, Roger (Regina) Henry, Muriel (Che) Henry-Smith, Andre (Stephanie) Henry and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles spread across the south and east coast. He also has beloved friends for over 3 decades, Kenny, Rich, Albert, and Tyrone.
