RIP SEN.THELMA HARPER, OUR LEGENDARY QUEEN. We will always appreciate you and your work for our little community in Haynes Manor, Trepard Heights, Haynes Estate and Haynes Park. Your kids were our friends, classmates and neighbors. Fond memories of your kids, DYLAN(deceased) and Linda, in the day at King's Lane Elementary School, Ewing Park, Maplewood High School. I am thankful for all you did for us at Hartman Park, as our council woman. You will always be remembered for your many hats. Your LATE husband, Mr.Paul, for always making available services at Harper's Market and a good hot food at Harper's Restaurant, on the Historic Jefferson Street in Nashville. You represented Tennessee well. You will be so missed, by your Delta Soror's, I'm sure. Rest now in the UPPER ROOM.. as you are so deserving of a sweet sleep! Prayers and my most sincere condolences are extended to your family.
Prayerfully,

My heart felt sympathy and prayers go out to the family. I first met, then Councilwoman Thelma Harper during her campaign in 1994 at Murrell School on 14th Avenue South. For some reason she asked me if I would campaign for her as a Poll Watcher and I did. This began my career with the Davidson County Election Commission and I have continued as a Precinct Registrar for the past 27 years. During my studies at Tennessee State University in the Health Information Management program, I contacted Senator Harper and others who were knowledgeable about the Health Care Reform Bill and Senator Harper graciously came to our class to explain what so many persons have taken for granted. Our class later met at the restaurant for lunch and took pictures with Senator Harper; she was thrilled that these young men and women were interested in the Healthcare Reform Bill, which many persons/ politicians have nicknamed Obamacare.
My family and I, would on a regular basis have lunch/dinner to go at their restaurant on Jefferson Street.
Senator Harper, thank you for your love, compassion, strength, and service to the citizens of Nashville/Davidson County. Yes, you wore many hats. Thank you Senator Brenda Gilmore for filling the shoes of strong black women who stand up for justice for all people. TSU/Gallatin Alumni Class of 2012
Blessings

In 1991, Senator Harper paid for a Class at Tennessee Technologies Center Nashville for LPN's who were being discriminated against. She was our CHAMPION. The class started with 32 but only 13 graduated. The faculty did everything in their power to stop us. But she was our beacon of LIGHT and LOVE. We owe her a debt that can never be repaid. REST IN POWER Senator Harper. You will be in our hearts forever. Class of 1993

Aunt Thelma, I remember sitting with you at Schrader Lane as we worshipped together for years. You have impacted my life in many ways and I want to thank you for helping me to graduate from college, by encouraging me to persevere and because of you. I was able to complete field work and graduate. I already miss you, your spirit and the things your taught me will never be forgotten. Love Vivian

Senator Thelma Harper was a jewel. We worked together for several years at Fisk University. I have fond memories of our many conversations regarding our families and her interest in Tennesseans. She had a burden to help people. To be an advocate for all was the desire.
God blessed Senator Thelma Harper. Well done.
