Please share a memory of Theodore to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Theodore Chance Mincey Jr., affectionately known as “Teddy,” was born on December 28, 1963 in Toms River, New Jersey to the late Theodore C. Mincey, Sr. and Queenie L. G. Mincey. Teddy’s early education was spent in the Lakewood, and Jackson Township, New Jersey school systems. Teddy attended Sixth Street Baptist Church in Lakewood at an early age. Throughout his life Teddy showed great love for his family, friends, and pet Beagle hound dog Napoleon. Teddy’s brother Beenie Ballard played an important role in his life as his big brother, and guardian. Beenie ensured Teddy received loving care, attention, good health, and happiness throughout his life that was challenged by health handicaps. Teddy relocated to Nashville, TN in 2005 to stay with Beenie and Melannie, his sister n law, when Teddy’s mom, Queenie health failed. Since leaving Lakewood, Melannie played an instrumental role in Teddy’s life with undivided attention, love, and health care provisions. Melannie was like a second mom to Teddy. She reminded Ted that even though he was spoiled he had self-help health care responsibilities to which he would at times reply “Yes, Ms. Queenie.” The other family members Jeiel, Jason, and Janelle were also helpful. Teddy enjoyed travelling with his brother, listening to music and watching his favorite TV shows. Attending family reunions in Georgia, Virginia, and North Carolina were special occasions for Ted. His favorite and famous go-to meals were a Burger King Whopper or a McDonalds’ Big Mac with French fries and a coke. He also enjoyed Kentucky fried chicken with mac ‘n’ cheese. His favorite spiritual songs were “Victory is Mine,” and “Jesus Loves Me.” Singing these songs with his cousin Claudia Mincey brought joy in his life. Teddy was soft spoken, never complained and always had a beautiful smile on his face no matter what the circumstances he was going through. Teddy was predeceased by his mother and father of Lakewood, NJ, and sister Gail Booker, of Metter, Georgia. He is survived by his brother Gamaliel (Beenie) Ballard, sister n law Melannie M. Ballard, Hendersonville TN., niece Janelle Ballard, Harvey, Louisiana, two nephews Jason Ballard, Oakland California, Jeiel Ballard, Hendersonville, TN, sister Alma Session, Neptune, New Jersey, cousin Claudia Mincey, Toms River, New Jersey, cousin Cornell Green, Clarksville, TN, aunts Autier Craft, Long Island, New York, Evelena Memborn, Ayden, North Carolina, a host of cousins in New Jersey, North Carolina , Florida, Missouri, and Georgia. Devoted mentors, Carrie and Grady Donaldson, Lakewood, Joan and Thom Ross, Bristow, Virginia, played instrumental roles in Teddy’s life. The family is very appreciative of the services provided by Alyse, Coordinator of Tenn Care health care services for Teddy.
