Please share a memory of Vera to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Vera Lowee Sims Childs was born on December 8, 1924 in Springfield, OH to the late Sam Sims, Sr. and Josephine Hunter Sims. Vera attended Pearl High School and Tennessee A & I College where she studied Business. She was also a devoted member of the Quarterettes Social Club for many years where she enjoyed their monthly meetings, card games and lunch outings. Vera married the late Clifford Childs, Sr. in 1947 and two sons were born from that union, Clifford “BeBe” Jr. and Rodney Wayne Childs who are both now deceased. She is also proceeded in death by her longtime friend and companion, Alvin Brown. Vera loved to travel, host club meetings, and most of all she loved to cook. She loved her family and took pride in being the Matriarch. Her feistiness, quick wit, and laughter was contagious whenever her family was around. Left to cherish and honor her memory are her grandchildren, Kesha Lowee (Thomas) Turner, Marques Wayne Childs, and Adrena (Avery) Patton, two daughters-in-law, Verna Lyons Childs, and Rita Ballentine Childs, great grand-children, Marquell Childs, Jamarie and T’yanah Turner, Malaika and Malaysia Childs, and Bri’Ara Holmes, two great great grandchildren, Talyn and Taryn Johnson and D’nea Harmon, who loved and cared for Vera in her final days. Also to carry on her legacy is a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
