I will miss Brother Boone and our phone calls during which we discussed many memories including his youth growing up in Holly Springs, military service, working with inmates and political issues. We often discussed our kinfolks and especially my deceased Brother Leon Ambrose. He was a good man and may he rest in eternal peace.

The last time I saw Uncle Boone was at the bedside of Uncle Alva, Boone's brother. As Alva journeyed toward the light, my heart felt heavy. Then, Uncle Boone walked in, a vibrant force. He looked so smooth in his tracksuit punctuated with clean kicks and sunglasses tucked into the collar of his t-shirt. He was controlled yet compassionate, as he stood by his brother's bed. Seeing Uncle Boone gounded me. In his presence, I knew life would go on, and the Gipsons would be ok. After Uncle Alva passed, I would learn Uncle Boone was fighting his own health battle. He fought hard and long, long enough to meet his grand baby Emerson. I'm so thankful she was able to know him, his strength and his love. And though Uncle Boone has now completed his journey in this life, I will always cherish that memory at the bedside and feel comforted by the potent life force that was Elisha "Uncle Boone" Gipson.
