Not a day passes, Mother, when I don't think of you. I think of the immense love you had for me. I think of how you protected and guided me through my life. I think about our closeness and the many experiences, things, and preferences we shared. Our relationship extended beyond that of a mother and daughter, we were sisters and friends.
You made tents for us to sit under and play when I was a child. I made mud pies that you received with much delight and pretended to eat.
You taught me about faith in Almighty God which brought us through challenging times. During the time when you made the transition from being a member of the Methodist Church to becoming a member of the Baptist Church, you gave me the nudge that I needed to join you in baptism.
You encouraged me to always be a lady and to be kind to myself and to others.
You inspired me to become your soror and member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.
You encouraged me to engage in higher education pursuits.
You set the example for me to be a good help-mate to my husband, as you were to my father.
As I have been blessed to become a mother, I've tried to instill the same values in my daughter that you instilled in me. She and I share an indelible admiration for you.
Recently, I had an opportunity to journey back to Marietta. While there, I was overcome by a deluge of memories. I stood on the porch of the now renovated elementary school that I attended and thought of the time when as a first grader, I walked out of my classroom and the building, heading home to be with you. I visited the Town Square where we once frequented many stores for clothes and to transact business. I passed the house on Henry Drive that you and Daddy built.
I rode through some of the streets in Atlanta, remembering where I took piano lessons on Saturdays, under the tutelage of Professor Marian Sykes.
So many memories . . . . . . .
I love you, Mother.
I miss you, Mother.
I'm thankful for the time that God allowed us to enjoy each other.
I have peace now, knowing that you are in Heaven with Our Father and reunited with Daddy.

So many precious memories of my cherished grand Aunt Peggy. Always met with a warm, welcoming smile, I fondly remember the exciting news and anticipation of a "weekend sleepover" at her family home. I always felt so happy and loved there, as my dear cousin Michelle would patiently allow me to follow her around in awe. Please know that you are surrounded by that same love now. I’m thinking of you and taking comfort in knowing Aunt Peggy is forever in my heart and always the angel I knew her to be.

I will always remember Aunt Peggy as having a wonderful sense of humor, and a welcoming personality. She was always ready with a smile and a piece of cake, made by Aunt Charlie B.

It is so hard to say "goodbye" at times like these because the memories are still so fresh that it is hard to believe that you have left us. It is also worth noting that your life paved the way during a very difficult time in our nations history and you were a part that defined the changes to come. I was not there in 1940 when you were 10 years old, but I was there in 1960 when I was 10 years old and I can only imagine what you endured to make our lives better. Then there are the memories of trips to Hartsville to visit your Mother and the fried chicken and biscuits that she would make. The summer trips to Marietta with Uncle Kenneth while you were studying at Peabody in Nashville. I guess I was closest to you both because you were the youngest of the family elders and could relate to my teenage years. You never turned me away and always gave me good advice. Somehow to say "goodbye" seems so awkward, so I will just say "see you soon and keep loving me as you always have."
