Obituary of Frederic G. Furman

Please share a memory of Frederic to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Frederic Geoffrey Furman, was born on February 10, 1956, in Chicago, Illinois to Benjamin Franklin and Lois Jean Furman, he was their only child.  His cousins, Vincent, Viki, Valerie and Vernice, would say differently, he was their brother.

The first years of Fred's academic life, started in Baroda, Michigan, where he scholared, in grades 1-4, living with his grandparents and cousins. For grades 5-8, he went to Shiloh Academy, in Chicago. Then on to high school, where he attended Broadview Academy, for four years. Fred split his college experience with Andrews University, where he was dubbed as “Silky Slim” and Oakwood College, where he graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Biology and minoring in Chemistry.

In 1977, Fred met the love of his life, Emyria Dunn, on Oakwood College's campus. They were married on July 19th, 1981 in a double wedding with Emyria's sister Elynda and her husband, Donald Bedney. Fred was beloved by Emyria's family! He was a brother to Elynda, Emily, Sandy and a loving son to his Parents in Love, Edith and Ephriam Dunn.  He was so adored by his nephews, nieces and cousins. The Lord smiled on Fred and Emyria and blessed their lives with two bouncing, baby boys, Evan Frederic and Elliot Franklin Dunn Furman. Fred and Emyria enjoyed a beautiful life together and were married three days shy of 42 blissful years.

Fred landed in the Pharmaceutical Industry, for his life’s work. He was a true professional with a humorous twist to his presentations and luncheons. He served diligently at that position with two different companies for 35 years.  Fred excelled by relentlessly competing amongst the top pharmaceutical salesmen in the nation.

Beyond his biological family, Fred was fondly known in the Nashville community, as Uncle Fred.  He served as the President of the Middle Tennessee Youth Federation for years, and Bible Bowl Coordinator of the South Central Conference, for fifteen years. He also served his church. Hillcrest SDA, faithfully, as Elder, Head Deacon, and AYS Leader. He loved young people and that was evident, especially when he served as Aftercare Director of Madison Campus Elementary. He loved the children at school and would orchestrate games and prizes ro make aftercare fun and exciting!

He was called to his earthly rest, on July 16th, surrounded by his loving family, who await their Savior’s return, so they can be reunited with him.

The service will be live streamed on FaceBook at Lewis-WrightFD for family and friends unable to physically attend.
