Obituary of Jacquelyn Yvonne Fuqua

In loving memory of Jacquelyn Yvonne Fuqua, born on October 27, 1947, and departed from this earthly life on October 25, 2023. Jackie's life reflected faith, service, and a deep connection to her community.

From an early age, Jackie's spiritual journey was evident as she professed her hope in Christ at Progressive Baptist Church located in Nashville, Tennessee, under the leadership of the late Reverend Powell. Her dedication to her faith continued as she became a charter member of Faith United Missionary Baptist Church, Dr. Reverend Roosevelt Walker, Senior Pastor. Within her beloved church, she served steadfastly as the President of the Usher Board, a role she fulfilled for many years. She was also an active member of the Women's Ministry, touching the lives of many with her kindness and faith. Jackie was also a valuable member of the Stone Rivers Association, where her dedication to her faith community knew no bounds.

After working at Central State for 15 years, Jackie joined the State of Tennessee as a medical technician.  She later joined Genesis Academy, where she retired after 25 years of service. Continuing in her ministry of service, she faithfully served as an environmental specialist at Faith United Baptist Church. 

Jackie's personal life was equally rich and meaningful. During her union with the late Carthell Fuqua, they were blessed with two daughters whose lives she nurtured with love and care, Michelle Lynn Bryant and Theresa Yvonne Fuqua. 

Education held a special place in Jackie's heart. She attended Cameron High School in Nashville, Tennessee, where she graduated in 1966. Her presence in the school was notable, as she actively supported and cheered on all sporting events. She continued her pursuit of knowledge at North Dakota University, which was a testament to her commitment to learning.

Jackie's commitment to her alma mater, Cameron High School, extended beyond graduation. She took on the role of President of the Class of 1966 reunion, contributing to the lasting bonds formed during her school years. Her dedication to the alumni community of Cameron High School left an enduring mark.

In addition to her educational and faith-based pursuits, Jackie was an active member of the Aristocratic Ladies Association, where she served as the Vice President, demonstrating her commitment to social and community engagement. She was also a member of the Spencer Jackson 762 Elks Lodge, actively contributing to their mission and work.

Jackie was known for her warm and welcoming nature, never meeting strangers. Her heart overflowed with love, and her hands with a desire to serve, leading her to become an honorary member of the Black Pearl Book Club. Jackie enjoyed reading, cooking, traveling, music (Blues) and shopping for a new dress each year for the Cameron High dance.

As we reflect on Jackie's life, we remember her not only for her dedication to her faith, community, and education but also for her warm and loving presence. She leaves a legacy of faith, love, and service that will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing her.

Jackie was preceded in death by her late father, Raymond Gummer, and father and mother, Cleve and Pearline Horton; late brothers, Robert Norbit and Edward Horton; late sister, Patrica Horton; late daughter and son-in-law Michelle (Michael) Bryant.  She leaves to cherish her memory devoted daughter, Theresa Yvonne Fuqua, and devoted grandson, Cameron Bryant; devoted sisters Mable Lorene Hargrove, Gwendolyn Weakley, Audrey Ann Daniel; Sisters-in-law, Arline Whitford (White Plains, New York), Mia Ella (Joseph) Rucker (Brockton, MA). A devoted niece, Angelic Robinson, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Special friend Joe Johnson.

 In celebrating the life of Jacquelyn Yvonne Fuqua, we find solace in the knowledge that her spirit and legacy will continue to live on in the hearts and minds of those touched by her love and kindness. May she rest in eternal peace.
