Obituary of Alonzo Murphy

Please share a memory of Alonzo to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Alonzo affectionately called (Zo, Al, or Murph) was born February 5, 1939, to George I. and Sarah E. Murphy in Elaine, Arkansas. Growing up as a child the love of God was instilled in him, and Alonzo gave his life to Christ at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church.

After graduating from high school, Alonzo moved to Chicago to pursue a better life as well as join his siblings. He would later marry Hattie Burns and to that union Pamela was born. On June 5, 1986, he married Betty Boone and to that union Sara was born.

Alonzo's professional career included working as a short order cook, salesman for Serta mattress until he landed a job at American Airlines where he would retire after 30 plus years.

Alonzo enjoyed being sociable, traveling and spending time with family. He loved calling his family and friends every Saturday to check in on them. As well as getting dressed (always with sunglasses on) and going to eat with friends for breakfast or lunch. He always enjoyed watching all kinds of sports and was known as a big fan of the White sox, Chicago Bears, and Tennessee Titans (at times) as well as he enjoyed helping others when he could. Countless friends and family can attest to his generosity to others.
