Fred was one of my off-campus roommate when he was in grad school at Pitt and I was junior at Carnegie Mellon Univ. known then as Carnegie Tech. We had great fun playing chess and some nights on my way home after dinner I would stop by the blood bank where Fred worked at night to get help with my chemistry studies.
I also knew Antoinette and during a homecoming weekend, my date, who attended Colgate Univ, stayed with her family.
I last saw Fred in the St. Louis airport where he was passing thru and I was a TWA pilot.
Fred often said that one day he would be a univ. president. Well Fred, you did it. God Bless and may you have clear skies and tailwinds.
Fraternally,
G. Calvin Hutchinson, Esq.

I am so blessed to have been an undergraduate student at Tennessee State University from 1976 - 1980, with Dr. Humphries as “My President.” He was truly present for the students. Whenever we participated in campus activities and events, held our Student Government Association meetings, marched and protested for causes we believed in, or simply ate in the cafeteria or walked to class…we would look up and there he was, cheering us on and encouraging us to always strive for excellence. He consistently led by example and treated everyone with the upmost respect. As a very active student leader, I could not have had a better Tennessee State University President as Dr. Frederick S. Humphries, Sr. I thank God for his friendship through the years and will forever cherish his life and legacy. May God continually be with his family and every life he touched. Rest In Heavenly Peace and Power, Dr Humphries!
