Dear Sister of Preston: I wanted you to see a picture of me and my PapaPres! He came up with the name. My granddaughter Unique is above us. She plays the trumpet and she passed her audition for college this year. She’s in her school band and they travel for competitions all over. We couldn’t have made it without Papa! She knows that and she’s grateful that she had him as her grandpa! The second picture I couldn’t delete . I’m a retired Social Worker and I taught Child Welfare. It’s from my teaching days. I found the third picture of Papa online. I also found a wonderful article on your father when he was at Tennessee State.

Dear Family of Preston E. Stewart Jr.; please except my sincere condolences for the passing of your loved one. When I met Mr. Stewart I was 12 years old in the 7th. grade at Cutter Jr. High School, and he called me to his office notifying me that he was my School Counselor. He was questioning why I was in general studies when my grades and testing reflected my placement should have been academic. He changed my schedule and my educational journey began because he believed in me!
-I met his wife and children and became their babysitter and continued when he became a DJ on weekends
-When I graduated from college he was there taking pictures and video like a proud Papa, the same at my 50th birthday!
-He became my Godfather because he stayed in my life since age 12 and I’m now 70 years old, my children who are adults and my last granddaughter Unique who he absolutely loved so much. He first saw her when she was five. They talked on the phone often and he guided her education and musical skills. He paid for her private music lessons for three years. She’s graduating with a full scholarship to an Ivy League College thanks to his advising. I was able to give him this good news in January!
There is so much more I could tell you about how kind and loving he was but I’m sure you already know it. He was more than just a School Guidance Counselor. If he believed in you he made you “his person “. I just want you to know how hard he worked for kids and how much he cared for them. He often went out of his way if he thought a child had a better chance in succeeding with an intervention. He was a master of utilizing reverse psychology on his students. By the time he got through his mumble jumble the student’s head was spinning so they conceded due to exhaustion. He also told me how he orchestrated his career and said what was necessary because he knew how to game the gamer. “Your wealth is where your friends are”. Joselyn will be in our prayers!
He was a DJ for years but he could really sing or sang! He made a CD and it is beautiful! So Papa Pres, I guess I’m signing off now and I don’t want too, but I have too let you go so you can Rest In Peace ☮️! I’ll always love ❤️ you-Your Val, John and Unique Shipman

Our dearest sympathy
We are heart broken to hear of Preston’s passing. He was a dear friend and truly family. We have so many wonderful memories from the days of Preston Playing music, dancing and singing at our pig roast, being the DJ at our sons wedding to Preston living in his motor home in our back yard. He will always be remembered. He always laughed because our sons called him Uncle Preston.
His friendship began at the Sohio in Pleasant Ridge with Carl Evans, My Dad Roy Doan and My Husband Randy.
He quickly became a best friend to all.
RIP Preston
To the family of Preston,
We are so very sorry for your loss.
Preston will always hold a special place in our hearts.

Sincere condolences to the family of the late Preston Stewart Jr. As a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc., Zeta Alpha Chapter, Spring line 1955, I vividly remember Brother Preston serenading the entire female population at TSU, singing the lead part of the Sigma's Sweetheart song. Boy could he croon. He will be sadly missed by all. May his soul rest eternal in peace.
