Emmitt Richard Johnson (Tex) departed this world on March 3, 2023 in Fayetteville, Tennessee after a brief illness. Tex as he was known to family and friends was born on October 1, 1936 in Nashville, Tennessee.  He was the youngest of four children born to the late Ardillar and Buford Johnson.  He was educated in the Davidson County public school system.  He was later drafted and served in the United States Army.  Tex was employed as an officer for the Lincoln County police department. 

He accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Bethel AME Church, Nashville, Tennessee.  Emmitt was united in holy matrimony to Cordelia Askins and became a member of Mays Chapel AME Church in Fayetteville, Tennessee.  Emmitt loved watching a good movie, but his passion was golfing and playing pool.  You could find him on any Saturday or Sunday evening in Lewisburg or Alabama golfing.  Tex’s was always quick to greet you with a smile which was infectious and his love for his grandchildren was visibly undeniable. They were the apple of his eye.

Tex is preceded in death by his parents; Ardillar and Buford Johnson; devoted wife, Cordelia Johnson; brother, Buford Johnson; sister, Emma Johnson; grandchildren, Carlton C. and Cayra C. Caruth.  He is survived by his loving daughter; Cheryl Chapital, sons, Carlos Johnson, Carlton (Rochelle) Caruth; seven grandchildren;  six great grandchildren;  sister, Constance Johnson, Nashville, TN; brother, Melvin (Judy) Johnson; sister in law, Delorse (Richard) Lewis and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
